Girls’ Invisible Autism

Internalized feelings
Silence with unfamiliar people
Attraction towards pets
Being lost in own world
Termed as being shy

In silence
Overwhelmed with sensory overload
Anxiety and fear deep inside
Masking with expressionless face
Pouring out my hearts to Jesus
Seeking to overcome own challenges
Observing and smile to babies and pets

I divulge my autism issue with friends whom I feel comfortable with. My struggle is in communication. Socializing with strangers is not a problem. It depends on whom I feel comfortable to talk to. My friends label me as being introvert and shy. Am I shy? That’s my question.

I do not understand myself. Seeking to have self-understanding. Last year, the autism diagnosis had tested me positive. It created mixed feelings – fearful, upset, relief. “Why You Cannot See My Daughter’s Autism?” news help me to have a better understanding of myself.

I participated for the Ligo Haibun Challenge Photo Prompt posted by Padmini. I feel so challenged and excited to write. Unexpectedly, Haibun is a new concept for me and thankfully Padmini guided me through and gave me examples. So enjoy my first Haibun.

Ligo Haibun Challenge - Photo Prompt | call2read

In the traffic filled with noisy vehicles passing by, plants fill the sideways of the road. As I walk through the plants, the leaves fragrance catch my nostril. Being attracted to it, I follow its scents path. As I walk closer and closer deep into the jungle, close to the quiet and silent leafs in the forest, there lies

In the midst of leaves
Lie a white petal with thin corn
Staying peacefully without any disturbance.

Peeping Toddler

Suddenly popping out his head
Like a turtle; peeking at the flowers
Surroundings then declaring his house.

As I walked home with my son in my husband’s arms, he suddenly peeped at a nearby condominium. He was observing the flowers, plants and buildings. Out of the blue, he declared that the condominium was his house. Finally, he replied that it was not his house.

“Popping out his head across the fence” was the first words came to me. But I choose to express it in haiku rather than free verse. I want to limit my words limitation as a challenge to improve my creative writing.
