Life’s Demands and Expectations

Everyone has escalating demands
Now! Now!

Laundry shouts at me
Wash! Spin! Dry! Hang!

Computer seeks my attention
Beep! Beep!

Emails are calling out to me
Open ME! Read ME!

Child also seek immediate attention
Play with ME! Accompany ME!

Husband expects more
Manage the household! Manage others!

Parents expect serving them
Give immediate help

In laws expect control over me
Jobs providence come

Freelance work client seeks attention
Put client the first

Self-expectation desire to excel in life
Fall short of all

Life’s workload bogs me down
Losing self

True friends come into my life
Angels lift me up

Confusion is cleared
See with more clarity

Discernment enters
Empathy increases

Agree to disagree
Learn to speak indirectly

It began with the first third and eleventh stanza. As I return back to revise further, I pour out more of my overwhelming feelings. Thus the title change from “Life’s workload bogs me down” to “Life’s demands and expectations”. Wish you all have good days and thank you.

The More I Sing

The more I sing
The more you can’t sleep

The more I sing
The more you can’t sleep

The more I sing
The more you sing

The more you sing
The more you can’t sleep

The more you teach me how to sing
The more you sing

The more you sing
The more I sing

Sing! Sing. Sing! Sing.

Upon returning home from my son’s graduation, I give him shower and pet him to take nap. So I read to him. Then he requests me to sing him to sleep. Although he knows I sing out of tune, he guides me how to sing. Thus the above song is birthed out and sing to him with my own melody. Finally, I ask my husband to sing to him. Wish you all have good days and thank you.

Taffany

Life has not been easy for Taffany. Her “yes” has landed her into a lowly state she hates. Saying yes to her parents to encourage her to marry first when she wishes to find a job. Saying yes to her boyfriend’s marriage proposal. Wedding banquet reveals the array of her beauty to her family, friends and relatives. A year later, her baby is born into this world. Both couples are filled with joy upon seeing the newborn on Tiffany’s hugs.

Grinning with joy, Mill promises to her to enjoy her life with her baby. Her husband promises to be her fertilizer. Those promises seem too good to be true, but she believes it. Instead of helping her to reach to her potential, Mill and her husband desire to control her through abusive words, cutting her low financial allowance and even gang up with his siblings to abuse her. Using their loved toddler as an excuse to divorce her for their own agenda. Mill’s unscrupulous possessiveness led her son’s blindness and downfall. But The ord is not blind. Their secret agenda is exposed to the light. And to their disappointment, Taffany’s parents protect her without her realizing it when she runs away from home. When the gregarious situation is solved, Taffany’s parents rebuke her for pitying Mill and not listening to their warnings to avoid Mill’s evil schemes. Taffany feels stupid.

This fiction is written based on a true story of a friend with names are changed to protect their identities. Therefore, I use present tense to depict the reality of life and the pain many women go through. Enjoy!

Motherhood

LOUD
STRONG
WAIL
Project out of the delivery room

A baby is born
His first cry
Enter my ears
Cuddle him
Provides warmth

Life with baby seems rough
Giving him full attention
Stay with him while he cries
Connect us with
Love
Affection
Understanding

The more I care him
The more he calms down with my presence
The more he communicates calmly
Though not all the time

Upon reaching motherhood phase of life, I search through books and attempt to apply it. Some methods are successful, but some methods are not applicable. So I’m still learning and agree with some of the theories.

As The Sun Arise

As the sun arise
Prepare before school commences
Sitting in an opened fridge
Munching breakfast, brush teeth, change to uniform
Hop into kijang’s middle seat
My father drives with mother besides him
My little brother is next to me
Queuing, passing by numerous cars into lanes and streets
Then immediately reach school
Throw my bag onto my seat
The school bell rings
And rush to march.

As the sun arise
Loud horrifying crows’ sound
Startled me from dreamland
Though can not sleep
Quiet time gives strength
Immediately, prepare to go
To work without hassle.

As the sun arise
Little birdies are chirping
Chirping with melody enters
My dreamy ears and
Heard in my dreamland
Cooling air-conditioner suddenly auto-stops
A cute voice calls
Waking me from dream
My head turn right
Capturing a pleasant sight
Who is greeting me
With his captivating smile
Compelling my heart to
Walk towards my toddler
Where he lovingly gives
Three morning greetings with
A caring hair rub
And so do I
Then we pray together
And push his cot
Out of the room
Feeding milk, change clothes,
Wet wipe his face
To freshen him up
Next, dry wipe and
Time to be together.

As I reminisced about my Tuesday’s experiences of having a two years old toddler, the inspiration in the third paragraph was birthed out.

Furthermore, my memories during my youth and children were sparked and depicted at the first and second paragraph.

Later on, I revised it upon referring back to it repeatedly.

God really amazes me to unexpectedly leading me into poetry for not being an eloquent speaker.

As A Lady

A lady aspire to concern of her parents
However, parents push her to marriage
Thus, she obliges

In marriage, she must take care of both husband and newborn
And not to forget, her job
Nevertheless, parents whine not spending enough time with them.

Though she aspires to take care of her parents
Financially and spending time with them,
There seems to be endless tasks
As the clock continuously tick
No freezing of time

How contradicting of her parents
The lady is sandwiched between parents, husband, and baby
Parents-in-law also whines of their son
How contradicting of her parents-in-law
The lady is sandwiched between husband and parents-in-law.

Burn-out occurs.

Oh, that is why
Some choose celibacy.

Though my parents stay with me, I can’t seem to have time for myself. There seems to be numerous and endless tasks to make sure the house is neat, tidy, and in proper order. Not just taking care of newborn child and doing my freelance work. I have been trying to balance the time and in the end, my body sometimes burns out even though I engage a helper.
