Like A Dog

Half naked
After urine
Use one palm
Touches
Sticking
Urine smell to
His dad
Marking
His dad
Dad belongs to him

Like
A dog
Urinates to
The pole
A dog that
Urinates to
Lamp post
Marking
Its territory
Territory belongs to it.

This happened in the morning when my son wasn’t wearing his pants, only with his clothes on. Upon seeing his dad, he suddenly touched the lower part of his body then touches his hand onto his dad. He told me that our son was like a dog, which marks its territory with its urine.

Locked Melvin

Soft and gentle footsteps
Yawns at the sight
At the sight of dark storeroom.
Climbing up to two boxes
It lays on the top box and
It closes its eyes dozily.
The door closes creakily.
But it doesn’t disturb it.

Few hours have passed
It wakes up
Climbs down
Jumping
Jumping hastily
As it controls its bladder.
Wailing
A SHARP WAILING!!
A WAILING MEOW!!

The door opens swiftly
Too late,
Too late.
It’s too late.
It is sitting on
A pool of urine
With a painful look.
With a relieved look.
Poor Melvin.

Everyone is alerted.
Everyone pities him.
One hugs and caresses him.
One wipes and mops its urine.
Poor Melvin.
Poor Melvin.

This is the third series about my stray pet ‘Melvin’ who is mentioned in my previous poetry. This time it is mentioned in the cat’s point of view. This case happened when nobody knew that Melvin came and entered the storeroom. Normally, we closed the storeroom’s door to prevent cockroaches and rats from making its nest.

Cute Dog Pee Stance

Body facing backward towards the television rack
Pulling legs apart similar to a dog pee stance
With his right foot touches the cover
The cover of the television rack
Slowly, his foot closes it
Everyone’s eyes pop out
But turns to
Amazement,
Awe,
Cheers, and
End in applause.

Upon returning home from a workshop class held in the library, my mother and helper informed me about my toddler’s actions. My helper laughingly showed the way he acted. My parents are laughing as they re-told his cute and funny stances. These reminded me the previous day I closed the cover of the television rack with my right foot though facing forward. Unexpectedly, my toddler mimicked my actions in an extreme way due to his various experiences. When he was much younger, he saw a puppy’s stance to pee whenever my husband and I brought him out for a walk.

Upon imagining these things in my mind, the above inspiration was birthed out as I kept on revising it continuously. I’m amazed by the little boy God has blessed me with. Unknowingly, many of his little actions give me inspirations.
