Depression is an illness – not an identity

Depression and mental illnesses are never a good thing to have, but I suppose the silver lining is that, in today’s modern age, there’s never been a better time to be depressed. There’s lots of help available with new and better methods to help people cope, and mental illnesses aren’t as stigmatised as they’ve been in past eras.

The Internet, for instance, is full of help and advice from sufferers and survivors of depression, and there are lots of great communities out there that can help people with their problems. However, with all of these well-intentioned people, there comes some advice that (in my opinion) simply doesn’t help.
